After playing more than 130 shows, including festivals like Lowlands and sold-out venues in The Netherlands and Germany, 2013 is commonly reckoned to be John Coffey's breakthrough year. The release of their sophomore album Bright Companions (2012) marked the beginning of a renewed punk rock hope all over the Low Lands: screaming mobs and crowd-control teams at the highest level of awareness set the stage on which John Coffey served their duty week in, week out. John Coffey returned with their latest album, The Great News, in 2015. The endless stream of sheer energy that the band pours onto the stage was melded into 11 new songs, bursting with tension, questions and inspiration -- a powder keg of raw energy where melody reigns, a unique combination of intense screaming and grand melody lines.
John Coffey went on to play some of Europe's biggest festivals in 2015, including Pinkpop (NL), Hurricane/Southside (DE), Summer Breeze (DE), Pukkelpop (BE), Dour (BE), Boardmasters (UK) and Vans Warped Tour (UK), along with EuroSonic Noorderslag in both 2015 and 2016. In January 2016 John Coffey recorded a four-song EP at the GodCity studio in Massachusetts with Converge guitar player Kurt Ballou; it will be released on March 5, 2016 during their own festival "The Homecoming" in TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht.
